Leeds festival.

We missed it last year, but couldn't resist the temptation this year to live in a field for three days. We did see some great bands ... I'll not list all of them, but The Coral were easily the best, closely followed by the Foo Fighters. We also saw Beer Man,

who danced for money, Tent Man,

who seemed only to run around a lot. There were a few people there ... I was number 49081.

Much beer was consumed,

with obvious results.

It was a great weekend, though

And the best quote comes from Lucy, with 'Dad, you always get the best Samaritan'. Other highlights included watching wheelie-bin racing at 3am, White Stripes covers round a campfire, listening to Eels in the 24-hour supermarket and meeting a cool family from St Helens.

For a long time, we'd intended to visit some of the pubs in Gateshead; well, those beyond our street. Although we have finally achieved this, we'd greatly underestimated the number of pubs and a return visit will be necessary. Excluding our two visits to The Three Tuns and one to The Bridge (which isn't in Gateshead), we stopped at ...

This was followed by line dancing at a bus stop.

After a weekend of a man in a rabbit suit, a magician, a frighteningly rough-looking singer, two very loud child entertainers, thousands of irritating kids (with even more irritating parents), we rediscovered the magical properties of beer. This also allowed us to cope with the very strong-willed four-year-old that is my eldest grandchild.

I hadn't realised before today that Robinson Crusoe was written in Gateshead. Does that explain 'man friday'?
