It's amazing what rubbish a person comes out with after they've had a drink or two. Talking of which, I'll not be in any fit state to write anything tomorrow night, so I'll take this opportunity to wish the world a happy new year.

Hello. I'm home now. I've been to Newcastle for a drink with my very good friend Trevor. He's a nice man. However, he does have a problem; he's older than me but looks a lot younger. He always has done. But, I forgive him since he's nice. I'm a bit drunk, you know. A man said to me tonight, hello big fella, but then fortunately asked if he could borrow a chair. Obviously, I obliged. It wasn't too nice a chair anyway. And I'm not gay.

Since I'm not really drunk, I'll not mention the dodgy software I've just mailed to Trevor or the two (very nice) pints of Staropramen I had in the Tuns. I will mention, though, the gorgeous maximus maxim and Franziskaner I'd had earlier. I plan to have more very soon. New Years eve I think.

On TV at the moment is an episode in the series about the ambulance station at the top of our street. The ambulances go past our street a lot, although the one on TV at the moment is going to Washington. Someone is pregnant apparently. I don't recognise her. However, she looks famiiar; she has yellow hair. Very yellow hair. Oh, yes, she's in Washington..

I'm struggling now; the ambulance has lost the pregnant (yellow haired) woman from Washington and is now in Gateshead.

Oh my God, they just said that the yellow-haired Paula just gave birth to her 14th child! I can't spell the name; something like Tegan (98% certain) or Chantelle (0.5% but uncertain). what's the world coming to?

I need to sleep now; for the record, I didn't call off at the Tuns for a last (two) drinks before going home to eat leftovers.

I'm having an alcohol free day today. Thankfully my Sunday night out had to be rearranged, so I get to spend a night at home. Believe me, it's much needed. The night before last, we went to the Tuns where we took some random beer-related photos.

I have my eye on that poster, but have to resist the temptation to bring it home with me in view of my spouse's recent acquisitions (a Staropramen bar mat, an Amstel pint glass, an alcohol awareness poster {which is presently upside down on our living room wall} and a Blow Monkeys poster).

Oh, we saw the Happy Cats too; they've an ex-Lindisfarne member so they played a bit of their stuff, as well as some Irish music and some old local songs (Blaydon Races and the like), although Paula was mildly disappointed that they didn't sing Cushy Butterfield. At the end of the evening, Paula came out with her now traditional I wish I was a Geordie and Lucy threw up.

Last night, I went to Washington village for a drink with Phil. We met in the Washington Arms, but left after two or three pints because Phil didn't like the golfing crowd. The Cross Keys was pretty dead, although apparently it's gone downhill anyway since Phil left his job there. After Phil had a lecture from a professional rugby player, who'd allegedly beaten Phil's team single-handed, we left that pub too.

Phil suggested that, since everywhere was quiet, we should go to Washington football club as they always have a band on. As you can see, the place was really busy and the band were great.

Yes, apart from some Chavs, the bar was deserted. And, instead of a band, there was dance music. I really can't describe how horrible it was. We had one drink and left. We walked to Concord and were attracted to the New Tavern by the sound of the Kings of Leon. Unfortunately, after buying a drink, the music switched to bad dance stuff. It was even worse than the previous bar. I have to admit that I did feel a twinge of guilt when I left Phil sitting there to catch my bus home.

In keeping with our night in Washington, the bus was empty.

In desperation, I got off at the stop by the Tuns and called in for a pint.

Well, that's another Christmas day over with. Actually, it was a good day; quiet too. I've now retired my faithful little ixus in favour of my new shiny one (courtesy of my spouse). The old one, which was once cutting edge, was struggling with distances and its zoom switch was starting to go all stiff and jumpy. Although, I've chopped the resolution down to save space, this is my first picture with the new camera.

The mice were out in the garden yesterday too; they're quite fascinating to watch.Oh, a gem from Rhiannon ... Do you think that the mouse knows it's Christmas?

The grandchildren were out too (well, not in the garden).

We're going to have a quiet day today; well until later when we go down the Tuns.

A warning message from a can of peanuts ... Produced on a line handling nuts. What?

Saturday 13 December 2008 00:35

I had my work xmas night ot tonight.. To be honest I was dreading it. But it was ok. Kind of.

The Kaiser Chiefs are on TV right now; they're quite good live you know. Oh, Snow Patrol are on now (I could keep this up all night). They're ok (just) too. I talk rubbish when I'm drunk you know. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true.

Elbow are on TV now; One Day Like This.  I just had to mention it. I'm going to bed now.

Wednesday 10 December 2008 21:35

Another busy few days. I'm not long hme after a pint with Ian (from Uni) in Newcastle. He'd been there for a meeting. It was great to catch up again ... and make plans involving the missing third (founding) member of our group. One of our biggest problems is finding time when we're free at the same time, compounded of course by the fact that we're not very good at arranging anything.

Anyway, other than experiencing severity of weather on top of our hill, not a lot has been happening here of late. We did go to see the Kings of Leon last week, our last gig of the year. They were great, of course. We saw them at the arena in town and, while the acousticts there are rubbish, they sounded great from the front, compared to last year from as far back as it's possible to get.

Hopefully, now they've finally made it big, I'll be seeing them again soon!

I'll not mention Christmas at this point in time. Or expand on that comment. Ugh.
