A couple of months ago I
decided that I was drinking more than I should and that I'd cut down to
more sensible amounts. I've actually done quite well in this and it's
amazing how much money I've saved. Unfortunately, this does mean that
it's important that I remember that drinking less frequently means that
I can't drink the quantity that i was accustomed to. Obvious results of forgetting this are getting drunk very quickly and illness the following day. Regrettably, I experienced one of these last night and the other for the best part of today.

Since it was such a nice
day outside today, I tidied up the garden a little, then put new tyres
on my old bike and went out cycling for an hour or so. I've found quite
a nice circular route, something I'd missed since moving out of my old
house. My legs ache, I have a blister on one hand and my old
bike-injured knee hurts a bit. But I feel great now. It's funny how my 1993 Claud Butler is lots faster than my 2008 Kona. Shame the brakes aren't as good though.

It's been a funny old day
today.Firstly, in reverse order, I was sitting on the bus home from
work tonight and was soon irritated by the young peope
playing music on their mobile phones. My irritation went quickly to
anger (I'd had a heavy day ... and see below), but then I went all
nostalgic when I heard what was being played. The Specials, Madness and the beat. The three seem to have been resurrected,. which can't be a bad thing. .
Anyway, my second (not quite so funny thing); after seeing a large bag of sweets on my child's desk today, the temptation was too great and I took one. Only one. So now, I've one less filling and need to make an appointment to see my gorgeous dentist.

Last Sunday, taking advantage of the long Easter weekend, was a free beer Sunday in Aspire
in Sunderland. There's still quite a backlog of free beer though, and
we don't seem to be able to stop it growing. I had a two day thing in
London, Tuesday/Wednesday, so had to travel down on the Monday. I
didn't get back until late Wednesday, was out Thursday night, so it
feels as though I was hardly here this week. This weekend had all the signs of being better than the last few, but at the end of the day it wasn't brilliant. Still, I did manage a walk to Team Valley today to but some nice new tyres and tubes for my bike. Bought some new bike shoes on ebay too, since my old ones (11 years old) had finally expired last year.
Started reading Trainspotting tonight; Dave at work had loaned it to me a few weeks ago, but I'd not gotten around to it. I guess I didn't want to face the struggle of reading since my eyesight seems so bad nowadays. The book's good though.
Back to work tomorrow; yay.

Went with Peter to see his mate's band at the Head of Steam last night. The 300 foot gorilla were pretty good; I'm certainly warming to them. But then on came dirty rock and roll. We were really surprised how good they were. It was gread to see something very different; they even covered Beyonce's Crazy in Love in a Chilli Peppers kind of way. Oh, and Erdinger too. A great night.Followed by work again today. Another eleven hour day. It's beginning to pay off though; everything's coming into place now and I'm beginning to feel quite pleased with the results of the past year's work. Unfortunately, I've not had time to think about what I'll be doing next. I guess there's a little while before I need to worry about that.
I've quite enjoyed roll-out of the new system; it's been nice working with real people.

I've been working in my
job for around 14 months now. It's been hard work, but I've actually
enjoyed it (although I do need to remind myself of that every now and
again). One of the main benefits of the job has been the dramatic
decrease in my alcohol consumption; I'm at the point where I don't dare
drink through the week any more. I even went to see the Mosaics at the Cluny last Thursday and, after a delicious pint of Erdinger,
I opted for Shandy. So, at the end of the project last week, I allowed
myself a night out. I had a most enjoyable evening in the company of a
group of gentlemen in Washington village. Unfortunately, I was then
seduced by the lure of more beer with another band of gentlemen.
Mistake. As a result, I didn't do very much at all on Saturday.
Today was the big day at work, when everything went live (albeit in a cut-down manner). I've been on my feet most of the day (a 12 hour day at that, not including the three hours' travelling). So I'm a bit tired.
I could do with a beer.
