Today's passed very quickly, largely because I slept almost to
lunchtime. I still managed to cut down the old door I've stripped
(although sanding was prevented by a sudden heavy shower) and do some
house stuff. This evening, I've been researching the road trip
that Phil, Bob and I are considering, but a meeting is required before
decisions can be made. That's a long-winded way of saying I've not
really done a lot today. Saturday 27 March 2010 23:55
I watched parts one and two of Che
this evening. It was damn good, very close to the diaries. The end was
shortened, but that was probably the right thing to do. It's such a
shame that I was a kid when it all happened; I remember seeing reports
on TV, but I was way too young to understand. I may have to visit Cuba
again one day. I've had a pretty quiet day; largely a result of the after effects of consuming a large amount of beer last night. I went to see the reet hot chilli peppers in the Tuns with my children (and Ian). Then we went to Newcastle. George was visiting apparently, from Glasgow, but I walked right past him without noticing. Still, we did bump into Bob, Nicky and Chris in Gotham. We ended up in the Head of Steam, followed by the aforementioned gentlemen, and the evening morning ended with delicious Erdinger.
Unfortunately, the clocks go forward this evening. So it's an hour's less sleep or an hour's less daytime, depending on your perspective or how much Franziskaner I've you've consumed.
At least the weather's improving. I hosed-down my bike today with the aim of actually using it this year. I need to put new tubes on my old (faster) bike though. And fit the new pedals I bought last year. I should probably buy a new bike hat too, since I broke my old one.

Peter: Are you coming to Download? Gary: Well, I would have done, but someone took ages to decide so I bought a Lowlands ticket.
Peter: Haway man ..... I can't believe you're giving it up for that girls' festival. Can't you sell your ticket?
Gary: But I'm already going to two festivals and have two mortgages!
Peter: Life's too short man! Especially at your age. It's now or never. Make it happen.
Gary: When are the tickets on sale, I've already got Glasonbury that month.
Peter: On sale already ... I'll get you one. What d'ya say?
Gary: Oh, go on then.
Just like the iphone ad, some sequences have been shortened
I'm a pushover I think. Must be my age; did I mention I'd be 49 today if I still had birthdays?
On an entirely different matter, I've had quite an enjoyable evening picking crusty bits off my arm. I love my new tattoo to bits though.
And, lastly, I should mention (since I've not exactly broadcast it), that I'm getting divorced. I don't plan to give details over the internet, or indeed anywhere, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Although I have to add that it was pretty cool if you deduct the rubbish.

Ugh, i have a birthday tomorrow. Well, I would if I still had birthdays. And I'd be forty bloody nine! Thankfully though, I've not had a birthday in years so that means I'm nowhere near 49.

It's been a busy weekend; which of course means that it's slipped away
far too quickly. I had a discussion with Phil the other day, about the
epic march across Berlin that I'd inflicted on people a few years ago,
in search of a cool old bar we'd found a year or two earlier. Since I'd
led everyone completely in the wrong direction, we didn't find the bar.
However, I did come across a box of matches from the bar, so here it is
Phil ...

I recently posted a picture of my children and I, quite an old one. A
few people commented on the presence of hair on my head, one or two
went as far as saying it wasn't me in the picture. Well, I've had a
heavy duty scanning evening and I'm now well into 1983. I found a
picture of a handsome young man, with hair, so I'm posting this one too.

A month or two ago, the hosting company I use had a 10th birthday
offer; a year's hosting for 10 pence. I couldn't pass up a bargain like
that, could I? It was pretty tight though, I'd not read the email until
an hour or so before the offer ended, so it was a bit of a rush to find
another domain name. Anyway, I managed to find quite a cool .com
for ten quid, although I've only just gotten around to putting a page
up. It's really just a holding page though, until I think of something
better, and I'll not renew it after the year runs out.Wednesday 10 March 2010 20:55
I just did an internet rune reading. I should say up front that I don't believe in such things; I was just curious. Anyway ...

The Norn spread is used to plot the crucial elements of past, present, and future, and to reveal the evolution of the situation through the arc of time. Stone Runes are most commonly used for questions about the natural world and things beyond human control.
The left rune represents an important element of the past. Thurisaz represents a thorn, the most basic of barriers to our boon or our bane. In the case of hedges, thorns protect our encampments from that which skulks towards us from the outlands. In the case of rosebushes, thorns keep us from beauty. Though thorns are passive and have no thoughts, they puncture, tear, and may even be poisonous. Hence, this rune may also represent irrational violence and anger.
The middle rune represents a deciding element of the present. Nyd is frequently seen as a powerfully negative rune. You have drawn the rune reversed, which will lessen some of its effects. Generally Nyd represents loss, sorrow, and a hard journey with lessons learned. Nyd reversed here might be cautioning that the lessons might go unheeded representing repeated mistakes. The rune here might also be representing a minor loss or a nearly avoided catastrophe. Be careful, things are tricky and require strong attentiveness.
The right rune represents the critical element of the future. Wunjo is the rune of Joy. Since joy is least frequently a solitary emotion, this rune often represents mutual or communal bliss. Wunjo is also seen as a rune of the gods and a rune of perfection, carrying with it the elation that blazes from the creation of a perfect work - perhaps this is the true joy of the gods, that they can create perfection. That aside, this rune does not focus on the struggle for perfection or on our inevitable imperfections, but rather on a job well done and the satisfaction that comes from it.
