It's funny how we quickly adapt to new routines. This week, mine's become one of work, hospital, food, sleep. However, it looks as though my child will be able to leave hospital on Friday. It's been a stressful few days, but hopefully everything's going to be fine.

I think I start my new job tomorrow. It's all a little vague right now, but I've a meeting with my new boss things should become a little less cloudy.

I'm just home after visiting my daughter in hospital. We all had a bit of a scare today, but she should be ok in a few days. Meanwhile, she's on intravenous antibiotics. The situation wasn't helped by her doctor telling her a couple of days ago that she only needed to take paracetamol.

Yesterday, I was sent to Coventry. Literally. It was ok though, despite a ridiculously hot meeting room. Still, I made best use of the break between trains in Birmingham to enjoy Erdinger. Regrettably, I was delayed after boarding a train to Reading in error. This did mean that I didn't have time to go home and get changed before going to see the Vaudeville Class in town. However, I still enjoyed an evening of fine music and beer.

Apparently jobs, like buses, all come along at once. A recent reorganisation at work meant that my job wasn't guaranteed in the long term. Now that in itself wasn't a problem, since I'd planned to stay with this job for another year. However, the new uncertainty meant that, when a pretty good job was advertised, I thought it sensible to apply. I received a text message from my boss a couple of days ago to let me know I'd gotten the job. So I only needed to wait for a release date and make plans for the handover to my replacement. Or so I thought. I received another text today, apologising for contacting me when I'm on leave, but asking me to ring to discuss a proposition. The proposition turned out to be another job and I had to give a yes or no answer today. I gave myself a few hours to think about it, then decided to take the new offer. I don't like messing people about, particularly when I'd only just gotten a new job, but the extra money was just too tempting.

On a totally different subject, I watched Cracking Antiques on BBC2 this evening. The programme appeals to me since the obvious subject matter is old furniture. However, an added bonus was the couple of Elbow songs played while different items were being discussed.

I'm now half watching a programme about mummies. It's not very interesting.

I received quite a spooky text message from Phil this evening: ... bought tea bags, coffee, sugar, bleach, pans, plates, bowls, and a washing basket. Oh yeah, I know how to fucking party!

Why spooky? Well, because with the exception of plates, I'd bought pretty much the same thing today. So, after work today, I cleaned the kitchen. I think I also know how to party.

I'm so tired; can't believe I'm ready for bed so early. I've been painting all day though and I ache everywhere. Sleep now I think.

Well girls, I'm now officially single. So leave me alone!!!

Today was stressful, but not as bad as I'd expected. My soon-to-be-ex-spouse did her best to piss me off when leaving, but to be honest it pretty much went over my head. I guess I've had a lot of practice. I know I've said that the past few years weren't all bad but, well, they weren't. When it was good, it was brilliant. But when it was bad, well it certainly wasn't good. I don't blame Paula though; she just did what she's always done. I do understand why she behaves the way she does; unresolved childhood stuff that I'll not go into here. But I couldn't cope with it, no matter how hard I tried. And I did try.

I spent yesterday afternoon and evening in the company of some fine gentlemen, Alan, Jeff and Dave. We drank very nice beer in (several) pleasant surroundings. I really needed to let off steam, so it was a great pressure release.

Tomorrow I'm going to start painting.

Thursday 15 April 2010 22:18

The past few months haven't been fun at all. In fact, they've been bloody awful. At least it'll all be over in a couple of days when Paula and I go our separate ways.

Still, it wasn't all bad; far from it. Despite the bad times, I've lots of great memories.  By way of a sad farewell to all things that weren't bad, I always liked this picture of my other half.

And, of course, this one.

Still cute I think. Sigh.

Tuesday 13 April 2010 22:39

What a day! Actually, most of the day was fine, with a sunny day in London. The problem came with getting back to civilisation. Twenty minutes after leaving Kings Cross and the train came to a halt. Apparently someone had chosen the East Coast Mainline as a method for their suicide. You'd think that people would be more considerate when making such decisions. As a result of this particular event, my three hour journey back to the Northeast took closer to six. I'd not known that kind of timescale since the Hatfield train crash of 2000.

Even worse, I paid £6.70 for two cans of Stella and a packet of crisps. Extortionate.

Monday 12 April 2010 20:54

A few months ago I found what seemed to be a very nice old door in a skip. the door came from the old church a couple of doors away; it's being converted into flats. Unfortunately, as the paint came off, I realised that the door had had a hard life. One of the upper panels had been replaced by a sheet of hardboard and one of the lower ones was in a few pieces, held together with filler. I'm quite happy with the end result though.

I think I'd like to do something with an old bit of furniture next; I've no idea what though.

I went to Court today. Now, court in Gateshead's a pretty frightening experience. To get through the doors I had to empty my pockets and have my bag searched. I'd not expected that. There was a waiting area near reception, full of dodgy looking types, and the atmosphere wasn't remotely pleasant. I couldn't help but feel relief when I walked back out of the building.

I should add that I'd only called in to swear an affidavit.
