Pretty sky

Returning home from work, on a day off, I couldn’t help but notice the pretty impressive evening sky. Naturally, a phone camera can’t do it justice, but here goes.

Linux

For some time now, I’ve tried to avoid using Windows at home (it’s not an option at work). I’m only running it on one computer and that’s just because it has a weird graphics card which really messes with Linux. Actually, Windows struggles to cope with it too.
Today, while still suffering with my cold, I installed Linux on a couple of elderly computers. They were getting a bit creaky running Windows, and were no longer in use, so Linux seemed to be the sensible option.
They’re both now up and running, reasonably quick too when compared to their performance under Windows. One’s around eight years old, while the other’s from maybe a little over a decade ago. There’s no reason why they’d not be used for another couple of years.
And Linux is way prettier.

Cold

Despite having a new cold I spent most of today plastering. There’s now 125kg of plaster on the one wall I’m plastering.
Unfortunately, a further coat seems to be needed.

Heaven is a place in the Northeast

I’m at Gateshead interchange right now. I should be home, but I was delayed by a most interesting conversation with a man from Salford.
At the bottom of the escalator, I noticed a truly wonderful piece of engineering.

Full ahead, number one!
And then I spotted a poster which informed me that Belinda Carlisle is in fact from the Northeast.

Happy Cats

The last couple of days were spent doing more plastering. It’s just the one wall, but it’s taking a lot of plaster. We did go to see the Happy Cats on Friday night though, in Low Fell; the place was packed and the walk was well worth the effort.

Plaster

A few years ago, I decided to improve the main bedroom by stripping the plaster off the walls. This resulted in unexpected old brickwork as well as stone. It also gave me the opportunity to repoint walls that hadn’t been touched since the house was built.
Today I began plastering.

Perversion

One must wonder, particularly in view of recent events, how this was ever considered to be acceptable.

Cake

We went to Jedburgh for coffee and cake today. Orange and Parsnip cake. Delicious.

Fireworks

While I didn’t take any pictures, we walked down to Saltwell Park last night for the firework display. I was surprised when I found that it would be going ahead, despite Local Government spending cuts. It was well worth the walk though. It was a cold, but nice, evening. I even bumped into someone I knew from years ago. Literally.
On our walk home, we stopped off at Azure Blue (a pub I’d not set foot inside in years) and then the Tuns.
Today was spent sanding and waxing our new coffee table.

I’m now wondering whether a beer crate/pallet dining table is viable.
