Shirt painting

For some reason, possibly Double Maxim, a couple of months ago I committed to painting a t-shirt for the landlord of my local. I’ve no idea why I did so at a time when I had lots of other things I needed to do (that’ll be the Double Maxim again), but I’ve made an effort to finish it off this week. Might do another one soon.

Pipelight

I must say, I’m really impressed with the pipelight solution to the whole problem of running Netflix under Linux. After trying it on one computer, I’ve now added it to the bedroom computer, after taking the opportunity to replace Windows with Ubuntu. It’s pretty easy to set up, just a tiny amount of command line stuff and an add-on to the browser.

And, best of all, Ubuntu’s startup screen is more in keeping with the decor than was Windows.

With a long weekend ahead and Eels tickets purchased this morning, it’s been quite a satisfying day.

Coolness

Two good things: Firstly, Netflix is now happily running under Ubuntu on the living room computer. It’s a workaround of course, with an add-on to Chrome emulating Firefox, but it works a treat.

Which does mean that I didn’t need to set the computer up with a Windows dual boot option. At least I’d not gotten around to installing Ubuntu on the bedroom computer, so I can just replace Windows when I do.

Secondly, Eels will be playing at the Sage in July. On a Saturday too. And tickets are on sale in the morning.

Happy.

Central Bar

I do love the Central Bar.

But.

The service was incredibly bad this afternoon. My second in command hadn’t been served after 15 minutes, even though the bar wasn’t busy. The staff were a bit weird when my second in command commented on the service. As an observer, I noticed weird bar discrimination, ie blokes were getting served first.

So we left.

Beery goodness

This very afternoon, we walked to town. While on our walk we had delicious chips from Visocchi’s. And then visited the beer festival, where we had beer and, mostly, cider. A picture or two.

We then went to Dat Bar; our first visit. I have to recommend the place; as we walked in, they were playing ‘the white stripes’, then other cool stuff. Better still, they have an impressive beer menu, including Schneider Weiss on draught.

And the toilets are pretty cool too.
