Republic

I feel the need to say that I seriously believe that the UK should become a republic. Although I do appreciate that a single, joined-up republic couldn’t happen.

Not here. Which is a shame.

Bath

I had a relaxing bath this evening. With the radio playing and a candle lit. It was all rather nice.

Well, the light switch is broken.

Table

The old kitchen table, originally salvaged from my daughter’s garden a decade or so ago, has reached the end of its natural, second, life.

To be replaced by a more practical, smaller new table.

Early morning

Since public transport isn’t great at this time of day (6:30 train), and as it’s quite mild outside, I walked into town this morning.

Walking over the high level bridge, I could see my second in command’s new workplace. It doesn’t really work in a picture though.

Soot

Today involved soot. And other muck. Lots of it.

We now have two lined chimneys. And some residual muck.

Ridge tiles are being replaced tomorrow. Which won’t involve (as much) dirt.

Tiles 2

I have to say that I’m happy with my tiling efforts.

Of course, I still need to grout. I’ve been replacing architrave today, ready for panelling, so grouting may happen tomorrow.

Tomorrow will also involve new chimney liners. I may be stressed about such things.

Tiles

I’ve still a little tiling to do this morning, and grouting later, but I’m content with the outcome of yesterday’s night on the tiles.

Ubuntu touch

I’ve had mixed experiences with my Ubuntu phone. I love the operating system, but the lack of native apps is something of a problem; I had to buy a second, Android, phone just to be able to do some of the basic things that people expect from even a low end phone nowadays.

I have, though, donated my second phone to a grandchild. And I’m currently typing this on my Aquaris E4.5, which was the first commercially available Ubuntu phone. I can do this because I flashed the phone last night and it’s now running Android.

I may now have reverted to one phone, and it may also be running Android, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve given up on Ubuntu.

Because I’ve ordered a Meizu MX4; the Linux variety. It’s a better spec phone so should hopefully run Ubuntu at a more bearable pace. The lack of basic apps will still be an issue, but I do still have the E4.5, which runs very well on Android.

Unfortunately, during the process of flashing my phone, I’ve lost all contacts (since there wasn’t an easy way to transfer them).

Somehow it all made sense last night.
