Toilets

Today could have ootentially started badly. Fortunately, though, I only needed a pee on arrival at Central Station.

After work stuff, there was a visit to the Euston Tap. After a couple of nice pints (no pictures were taken), there was the Dolphin. And another couple of pints.

Oh, and more toilet issues.

Sunday

Yesterday involved: Station East, The Central, The Bridge Hotel, The Box Social, The Union Rooms, Wylam Brewery, The Town Mouse and The Hospur.

A pleasant afternoon.

Spring

My second in command has made a rather excellent purchase; a new axe. It’s much bigger than the old one; a lot heavier too, but also much more effective. It handles the huge knotty lumps which I used to put aside for the larger stove.

This will probably be the last wood cutting session before next Autumn, though it would probably be a good idea to do such things through the Summer.

Pocket

It only exists as a prototype right now, but the GPD Pocket is moving towards reality. The crowdfunding target was $200,000, but contributions are around $2.1M right now, with over a month still left.

They ship around June, so there shouldn’t be a huge wait.

Zipwire

It all happened so fast. The thought that those look like Suzy’s legs ran through my mind before I could get my phone out of my pocket and switch to video.

Anyway, my second in command very bravely zipwired across the Tyne.

From the top of the Baltic – you can just make out the cables.

Apparently, she needed a nudge to leave the roof.

The wall

During the process of buying our house, a survey revealed minor structural problems. One of these involved the rear wall parting company with the rest of the house.

The necessary repairs were made, but the cracks which had appeared over a century or more were still evident. If one knew where to look.

While working in the spare room, evidence of the degree of movement could be seen.

Cosmetic repairs have now beed effected.

Elbow

Yesterday, we travelled to Birmingham to see Elbow. At the Academy, a much better atmosphere than an arena gig. It was a shame that Newcastle wasn’t on their tour list, but somehow travelling for a gig adds to the whole experience.

I’ve long since stopped taking a camera to such events, it’s just something else to carry. So, I make no excuses, these are phone quality pictures.

Earlier in the day, we discovered a new old pub. In Digby.

Which claims to be the oldest pub in Birmingham.

There were some others, but none quite as nice as the Old Crown. Although we were also taken by the Victoria, near New Street. Oh, and most notably the Lamp Tavern, a tiny old Irish pub (not of the O’Neills variety, a genuine old one).

Breakfast this morning was in a rainy Burton on Trent. None of us had ever been before. Breakfast was nice.

Birdwatching

My feeble attempt at doing some shopping in Nottingham hasn’t exactly been productive. However, my (vegetarian/vegan) pint of Magpie Best in the Crafty Crow is quite delicious.

Apparently, this pub, run by the Magpie Brewery, is the big brother of the Doctor’s Orders micropub.

It’s rare to find unfined beer on hand-pull, so I’m hoping I come across their beer at home.

While I’m here, I may as well sample the cherry breakfast stout.

Addendum: the cherry stout is smokey and fruity, very nice.

Addendum II (is that allowed?): Following a filmed pancake interview, the pub staff took pictures.
